Commercial and Editorial Photography for Chicago Businesses Since 1986
The image you needed probably wasn't on the shot list.
Most commercial photography starts with a brief. Someone assembles a list of things that need to be captured — equipment, executives, facility exteriors — and a photographer executes it. The result is accurate, professional, and doesn't quite say what you needed it to say.
When the team at Mueller Industries came to us for their DeKalb facility, they explained their reason for the hire plainly: it was how we saw images — a portfolio that moved between precise industrial documentation and photographs that discovered themselves in the course of a shoot. That distinction was visible before the first frame was made. It's what an outside eye brings to a facility or a practice: genuine curiosity about what is actually there, rather than confirmation of what the brief already assumed. Sometimes that means redirecting a brief built for the wrong audience. Sometimes it means finding, mid-shoot, an image that couldn't have been specified and names something true about a place.
Let us help you create engaging and effective business imagery for your marketing and branding efforts.
Industrial · Manufacturing · Healthcare · Editorial
The primary work is in industrial and manufacturing environments: production floors, specialized equipment, the people who operate complex systems, and the organizations that need imagery capable of carrying real meaning across their marketing and communications. A growing part of the practice is healthcare — executive portraits, physician groups, medical office environments, and the doctor-patient photography that regional healthcare organizations use across print, digital, and patient-facing channels.
We also work with marketing agencies and creative directors who need a commercial photographer experienced enough in complex environments to work independently and deliver without hand-holding.
Since 1986, clients have included Mueller Industries, Komatsu, CommScope, NHanced Semiconductors, Mitutoyo, Illinois Retina Associates, Fuchs Lubricants, Raynor Garage Doors, BOMA Chicago, and others across Chicago and the Midwest region.
Assignment Work and Content Libraries
Some clients arrive with a defined deliverable. A campaign, a publication, a specific set of images for a known placement. That's assignment work, and it's scoped around the deliverable.
Others need something different: a working image library their marketing team can draw on across social, digital, and print channels over time. Not a shot list — a territory. Instead of specifying images in advance, we establish priorities and build the conditions for discovery. The resulting library contains images the client couldn't have written a brief for, and those tend to be the ones that carry the most weight.
"I think it is important to find a vendor partner that makes the job easier and does not complicate the process. Rob has become a true partner with our organization, professional, organized and always comes back with great photos!"
